On-campus events are a vital component of the University experience. Sharing and celebrating our community, culture and successes is part of the fabric of the University. On-campus events have been identified as a significant source of Scope 1, 2 and 3 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. These emissions are primarily generated from Scope 3 activities including catering, business travel and waste disposal.

To reach our Below Zero ambitions we need to consider how we can host events in a way that significantly reduces emissions. The Below Zero team have a comprehensive guide (PDF, 411 KB) for running low carbon events, which highlights sourcing local suppliers, communicating through digital platforms, and avoiding and reducing waste associated with running your event. Our Carbon Smart Travel Guide advises on travel relating to your event.

For practical support or ideals on running your low-carbon event talk to the events team, if you have questions about the guide contact us.
