Governance of the ANU environmental sustainability goals is shared across three key groups responsible for strategic decision making, implementation and day-to-day delivery.
- The Environmental Sustainability Committee provides strategic direction and oversight and includes executive leadership representation. The Committee is chaired by the Chief Operating Officer (COO) and meets quarterly.
- Environmental Management Group is responsible for implementing and managing sustainability initiatives. The Group is chaired by the Chief Campus Environment Officer (CCEO) and meets quarterly.
- Environmental Sustainability team (ANU Green) works across the University to embed sustainability outcomes into campus operations, policies and programs. This team is led by the Associate Director, ANU Environmental Sustainability, and meets fortnightly.
These groups report to ANU Council and relevant sub-committees, including the Campus Planning Committee and the Audit, Finance and Risk Committee, which provide oversight and accountability for the University's environmental sustainability commitments.
Progress is reported publicly through an annual Environmental Sustainability Report, and the University’s Commonwealth Climate Disclosure is included in the Annual Report. The University also complies with several regulatory reporting obligations, including the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme (NGERS), National Pollutant Inventory (NPI) and Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999.
