Make a real difference in sustainability on campus. As an ANU staff member, you can take simple, practical steps to reduce emissions, divert resources from landfill and strengthen our circular economy. From sustainable commuting to carbon smart events, waste reduction and educational opportunities, there are plenty of ways to contribute to sustainability, learn new skills, save time and costs and connect with like-minded colleagues.
Be carbon smart on campus
Reduce emissions while you travel to and from campus or organise events on campus. Use our Carbon Smart Travel Guide and Commute Smart Guide to reduce emissions from business travel and your daily commute. Or explore our Carbon Smart Events Guide to run low-impact gatherings and events that encourage colleagues to make sustainable choices too.
Participate in our circular economy
Help keep valuable resources in use and out of landfill. Our Be Bin Smart Program shows you what goes in each bin, and the ANU Green Network second life furniture channel and ANU Buy Nothing Facebook Group let you donate, repurpose and find second-hand items across the community.
Surround yourself with nature
Stay up to date with On Campus, ANU Green Network or our Instagram to join free planting events, usually held in autumn and spring. These activities are a great way to connect with nature, contribute to campus biodiversity and make a visible difference in our community. You can also volunteer in the ANU Kitchen Garden to grow fresh, seasonal produce and learn hands-on gardening skills.
Take advantage of development opportunities
Transform your sustainability values into action and expand your sustainability knowledge and professional skills. Explore free LinkedIn Learning courses on environmental sustainability, attend New Staff Welcome sessions with integrated sustainability content and find practical guidance to contribute to a more sustainable ANU.
